Women Society #2l met March 9
in the home of Mary DeLong at
New Providence with Evelyn
Landis and Sally Jackson serving
as co-hostesses. Fifteen members
answered roll call by telling of
their winter projects. Miriam
DeLong and Anne Steinberg dis
played beautiful needlework.
The Project Few Happiness was
discussed at length reviewing sev
eral individual needs and group
helps which we could coopera
tively affect. Several members
were assigned to obtain further
information concerning these
items which will be considered at
a later date.

Lancaster Farm Women Socie
ty 34 met at Buck Home Furnish
ings on March 20 to get home
decorating ideas.
It was decided to make a dona
tion to CAP and to give a $lOO

Anthony Carabella, Berks
County Commissioner, spoke to
the Berks Society of Farm Women
#6 in the home of Pearl Hoffman.
He spoke on land fills, toxic
waste, recycling, and illegal
drugs, which are tile biggpst prob
lems in Berks County.
Berks Heim Bingo will be held
on Thursday, April 6.
This group will be entertained
by Group #1 on Monday, April 10,
at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church,
Douglassville.
Donations were given to the
Heart Fund, Oley Fire Company
Truck Crew, Oley Ambulance,
and Alsace Manor Fire Company.

Berks Executive
The March meeting of the
Berks County Farm Women
Executive Board met recently in
the Agriculture Center with 14
members and two guests present
President Janet Schlegel, opened
the meeting. Roll call was
announced by stating if members
were excited about the up-coming
Spring Rally at Somerset
Plans are being finalized to
travel by bus to Seven Springs for
the Spring Rally.
It was decided that each group
would contribute $lO toward the
Berks Heim Volunteer Recogni
tion Dinner Centerpieces.
Members are looking forward
to helping at the Berks Heim
Spring Festival June 3 and 4.
Raffle tickets are also on sale for
this event.
Ladies are encouraged to attend
the exciting and informative prog
ram being planned for Berks
County Extension Homemakers
Day at the 4-H Community Center
on April 26. Reservations of $6
are needed to attend.
The Beiks County Milk Shake
Wagon is available for money
raiser events. Forms are available
to enter the Cherry Pie Baking
Contest at the Reading Fair in
September.

This grant program is designed
to encourage 4-H groups to deve
lop models for marketing, pork
promotion, and consumer
awareness programs to be tested
and duplicated in other states. The
grants, ranging from $5OO to
$2,350, also were given to groups
in Arkansas, Illinois, lowa, Loui
siana. Maryland, Michigan, Mis
sissippi, North Carolina, Ohio,
Oklahoma, and Texas. Funds will
be used for activities such as
increasing protein in the diet of
low-income families, developing a
pork classroom curriculum, swine
clinics and tours, and pork exhibits
and in-store promotions.
