Farmers receiving honorable mention in addition to Lobb were Larry and Lloyd Kehl of Windsor Township for their grass water ways and manure storage on their 600 acres; and Ralph Stoltzfus who farms 174 acres in Caernar von Township. Stoltzfus utilized waterways, terrace, drainfield and manure storage to enhance his property. The district and the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Ser vice held their annual banquet at the Kutztown Grange. The organi zations recognized many for their outstanding contributions for soil and water contribution. Donald Reinert, who teaches vocational agriculture atKutztown Area High School was named the outstanding conservation educa tor. For 24 years, Reinert has guided FFA students and Young Fanner classes into conservation fanning methods. Named the outstanding conser vationist is Claude Boas, Reading. Osborne Herd Top In Cecil DHIA BY SUE CROW Maryland Correspondent NORTH EAST, MD The top holstein herd in the county for milk went to Zion Meadows own ed by Joe and Eleanor Osborne. Their milking herd of 104 cows had a year end record of 19,709 m 642 p 679 f. They also held the top record for protein production. Boas held lead ership positions in enviromental concerns for SO years. The Blue Mountain Eagle Climbing Club was chosen as the outstanding conservation organi zation of 1988. Joan Moyer, presi dent of the club, accepted the award and told how the club works to preserve and protect the envi ronment while enjoying it .They maintain 64 miles of the Appalac hian Trail that winds through Berks County. The Lutheran Home, Toplon, earned the Maurice Goddard Fore stry Award, for setting an example on how to manage resources on a long term basis for timber produc tion, recreation, water protection, wildlife and esthetics. Three high school seniors each received $l,OOO scholarships for their achievements and involve- ment in conservation. The winners will continue their education in agriculture, forestry or some envir onmental field of study. They include Jeremy Lynn Deysher, Oley Valley High School; Karen Fessler, Conrad Weiser High School; and Kirk Mark Sattazahn of Conrad Weiser High School. 19,512 m 730 f 625 p. It is owned by A. The Brown Swiss record went to the herd belonging to Tom and Joy Crothers. Their 77 Swiss had a record of 15,615 m 649 f 556 p. The Jersey record was held by Middleground Farm owned by Ned Davis. His Jerseys produced 14,190 m 675 f 519 p. Peter and Richard Morris held the record for the greatest increase in milk, fat and protein production over last year. Their herd of 44 cows had increases of 1,522 m 7lf and S 8 pounds of protein. The high cow for lifetime production for Holsteins was held by Pioneer Valley. Their 13-year-old cow had a record of 216,250 m 5,823 f. For the Guernseys it went to England Farms with their 14-year-old hold ing a record of 143,270 m 6,492 f.
