Acres Hog Cattle: Live hog
futures closed mixed again today, losing 8
pomts on the spot option and gaining up to
30 points on the defeneds. Today’s closes
were at or near session lows in response to
long liquidation on positions established
earlier in the day. Price dire'lion became
uncertain midday on mixed product quotes
liter support on the opening was tied to
oversold conditions and higher cash mark
et prices. Spillover from the cattle pit
helped to keep losses in check. Bellies
closed from 15 points higher to 95 points
lower. The USDA announced after the
dose that it will begin to make additional
purchases of pork during the next few
weeks in an effort to assist producers dur
ing this period of falling market prices and
large marketings.
