Correspondent KAUFFMAN STATION- A Nittany Lion statue was presented to an unsuspecting Senior County Agent at the Franklin County Extension Association’s 71st Annual Meeting January 20. William A. Reagan received the award from Bob Anderson, Lan caster County, of the Pennsylvani a Association of County Agricul tural Agents. The Lion was given by the state association in recogni tion of the national award Reagan received in North Carolina in August when he was given the Distinguished Service Award by the National Association of Coun ty Agricultural Agents. Joe Middour, president of the local association, recognized two directors retiring from the associa tion’s Board of Directors after serving two three-year terms. Carl Wenger, representing Letterkenny Township, and Isaac Horst, repre senting Lurgan Township received certificates of apprecia tion for attending at least two thirds of the board meetings dur ing their tenure. Golden discussed the Volunteer Information Provid er Program, a service built on the extension network and designed to give information to caregivers of the rural elderly. Nineteen Pen nsylvania counties are covered by the program. John Z. Shearer, County Exten sion Director, introduced the six multi-county staff that serve Franklin County. Shearer explained that two years ago, the extension administration decided to utilize people who are expert in narrow subject areas by having them cover a large area. While no multi-county agent is based in Franklin County, several are available to local citizens. Introduced were Laurence Yager, Agricultural Marketing, who covers eight counties; Mitch Woodward of Lancaster County, Nutrient Management; Alan Michael, Dauphin County, Horti culture, who covers seven coun ties; Tom McCarty, Water- Quality, six counties: Roland Freund, Farm Management, four counties; and William Kleiner, Commercial Fruit, three counties. .ity Ag Ham Reagan was presented with a Nittany Lion In recog nition of the Distinguished Service Award he received in August from the National Association of County Agri cultural Agents.
