Grand Champion Steer
(ConllniMd from Pag* Al)
Roy and'Carol Weaver, took the
win in stride and answered ques
tions with ease.
While the reserve champion
received much less media atten
tion, for Chupp, 17, daughter of
Larry and Barbara Weaver, and
her 1,275-pound Angus crossbred,
it was still a nice win.
Before selecting any of the
champions. Judge Schaake
stressed that for most, to partici
pate was to win.
According to several veteran
ringside observers, this was the
first time in recent history that
Lancaster County 4-H beef club
members dominated the Farm
Show to such an extent that they
captured all the division champ
ionships.
Jay Hess started the day with the
champion lightweight. Kimberly
Hopple of Cumberland County

had the reserve champion
lightweight
Then came Weaver’s eventual
grand champion to the top of the
middleweight division. Another
Lancaster steer, owned by Nichole
High, was the reserve champion
middleweight
In the heavyweight division, the
eventual reserve grand champion
was named division champion for
Chupp. And Lori Cash of Center
County had the reserve champion.
The number of steers at the
show was lower than normal. Only
60 head were entered. The eco
nomic pressures on the livestock
industry and the increased number
of activities in the school systems
have reduced the number of 4-H
steer projects across the state.

sion are as follows:
