October, 1988
Gary Fielding, #5 Lake Ariel, had the leading dairy herd
in the Wayne County Dairy Herd Improvement Association
in the October test period, according to the Cooperative
Extension Service. The herd of 32 Holsteins had a rolling
herd average of 20,999 pounds of milk and 838 pounds of
butterfat.
Other top herds were: Kevin Burleigh, #1 Pleasant
Mount, 20,043 milk and 742 fat; Rowe Brothers, #2 Hon
esdale, 18,748 milk and 715 fat Jack & Ella Chyle, Pleas
ant Mount, 20,578 milk and 705 fat; Highland Farms, St.
Rt. Honesdale, 19,788 milk and 701 fat; E.W. Lepro, #2
Thompson, 18,724 milk and 695 fat; Charles P. Dennis, #2
Honesdale, 18,384 milk and 688 fat; James Slocum, #3
Susquehanna, 16,968 milk and 677 fat; Kinghill Farm,
Starrucca, 17,286 milk and 677 fat; and Dave Noble, #4
Honesdale, 19,259 milk and 668 fat.
The cow completing the highest lactation of 305 days or
less during the October test period was a four year old
Holstein owned by Charles Dennis, R.D.#2 Honesdale.
“Audrey* produced 25,233 pounds of milk and 1044
pounds of butterfat.
Other top producers were “Mya* owned by Clearfield
Farms, R.D.#2 Honesdale, 26,137 milk and 981 fat, "Dain
ty* owned by Rowe Brothers, #2 Honesdale, 20,024 milk
and 972 fat, “Dana* owned also by Rowe Brothers, 23,995
milk and 929 fat, “Violet* also owned by Rowe Brothers,
21,943 milk and 926 fat, "65* owned by James Yatsonsky,
#2 Honesdale, 20,504 milk and 896 fat, “Duchess* owned
by Highland Farms, St. Rt. Honesdale, 22,636 milk and
868 fat, “Lucky 82’ owned by George Banicky, #2 Thomp
son, 21,624 milk and 838 fat, "Design* owned by Clearfield
Farms, 21,688 milk and 828 fat and “Bell* owned by
George Banicky, 27,526 milk and 821 fat.
