Come to the Wild, Wild West for
a day of fun during the Pennsylva
nia Holstein Association Conven
tion. The ladies of northwest PA
have planned an affordable geta
way for you women and whoever
else might be interested. If you are
tired of the pressures of hard
times, then foiget them for Febru
ary 20-21 and have a good western
time.
The ladies have planned a craft
show for your enjoyment Monday
afternoon and early evening. Lo
cal crafters will display their
wares in the tropical courtyard
surrounding the pool.
The main ladies program will
be held at the luxurious Oak Tree
Country Club. In the morning
there will be two demonstrations;
one will be on how to use scarves
as attractive accessories, and the
other will be on porcelain dolls.
“Through Grandma’s Attic”
will be a colorful, captivating pre
sentation by Connie Kay Brough.
She is a very upbeat speaker that
will reminisce with women of all
ages using antiques you might be
familiar with from Grandma’s
attic.
After a scrumptious luncheon,
the ladies will board buses for a
tour of some of the attractions in
the area. First stop will be at Vol
ant Mills, a three-story restored

PA Holstein Convention
Offers Ladies Program

and antique shops. There will be
an opportunity to shop and browse
through this unique site.
Then on to the Wendel August
forge. This forge is one of the very
few remaining forges in the coun
try that continues to produce
forged aluminum, pewter, bronze,
and sterling silver entirely by
hand. These metals are crafted
into plates,'mugs, trays, plaques,
Christmas ornaments, and many
other decorative and useful gifts.
Each piece of giftware is unique
because it is handcrafted, and
there is sure to be something to
interest everyone. Since several
metals are used, there are gifts
available in all price ranges.
Finally, the last stop will be
Steece’s Ice Cream Shoppe where
the ladies will be treated to some
of their tasty homemade ice
cream.
Then it’s back to the Sheraton
for a couple hours of free time
before the banquet Make plans

Junior Holstein members invite all
Junior Holstein members to join
them for a special “first” in
Pennsylvania. It will be the first
completely Junior Holstein Con
vention planned and conducted in
Pennsylvania.

The planning committee has put
together a fun. action filled con
vention scheduled especially with
you - the Juniors - in mind. The
convention is scheduled for
February 17-19,1989 at the Sher
aton Inn, West Middlesex.
The theme, “Juniors Jammin
‘89,” includes plans for a “Jam’s”
dance, where Jams will be the
clothes of the day.
A review of the schedule starts
with registration opening at 8:00
p.m. on February 17. We also
have planned a pool and pizza par
ty with plenty of activities for all.
There will be games, mixers, piz
za and drinks and plenty of fun to
start our first Junior Convention.
On Saturday the 18th, things
start “Jammin” with a kick-off
meeting to review the schedule
and activities for the remainder of
the Convention. The always popu
lar Dairy Bar will open with an
abundant supply of dairy products
and other goodies from Northwest
PA.
The Dairy Bowl Contest will
start at 8:30 a.m. with a double
elimination, two division contest
with the winners going on to rep
resent Pennsylvania at the Nation
al Contest
For those not participating in
Dairy Bowl, we have some excit
ing, educational workshops being
planned. There are three work-
resentatives

Association’s 9th Annual Calf Raffle is in high gear. Juniors are out
J selling tickets to help fund the many programs and activities spon-
I sored by the Pennsylvania Junior Association.
I This year’s raffle calf comes from Rynd Home Farms and Linden-
I Loch Holsteins. She is a Bis-May Tradition Cleitus calf from an
j Excellent-90 Ocean-View Sexation with records to 28,930 4.2%
1229 f. The Granddam is a VG Matt Carlo with 31,420 3.3% 1027 f.
The next three dams are VG or Excellent
I The winning tickets will be drawn at the PA State Convention Sale
I on February 20 at the Sheraton Inn, West Middlesex. The first prize
I winner has the option of taking the calf or a cash prize of $lOOO. Sec
j ond prize is $250, and third prize is $lOO. Winners need not be
present
I Pennsylvania Juniors benefit greatly from the raffle. Trips, judging
I schools, production contests, DJM’s and many other contest and
I programs are funded from raffle sales.
