Simmental Association Releases Trait Leader Bull
BOZEMAN, Mt. ABR Sir
Arnold GBO9 has repeated as a
gve-category trait leader among
purebred Simmental sires who
have qualified as Genetic Trait
Leaders for 1989. The American
Simmental Association has
released the names of 301 trait
leader bulls, including 141 that
have qualified in more than one
category.
“Trait leaders are determined,
as a by-product of ASA’s sire eva
luation program,” said Earl B.
Peterson, ASA executive vice
president “In all, seven traits are
measured through use of Expected
Progeny Differences (EPD’s):
first calf calving ease, birth
weight weaning weight yearling
weight, maternal calving ease,
maternal weaning weight, and
maternal milking ability.”
More than 900,000 progeny
records were examined and eva
luated,” Peterson explained. “A
bull must be in the top 10 percent
of all active bulls evaluated to
qualify as a trait leader. Superior
performance and accuracy are
both taken into consideration.”
ABR Sir Arnold GBO9 is ASA’s
only five category trait leader, a
status that he also achieved in
1987 and 1988. He qualified in:
