CORNING, NY The New
York Beef Cattlemen’s Associa
tion and the New York
Calllcwomen have scheduled their
1989 Annual Meeting and Trade
Show for January 6 and 7,1989, at
the Marriott Hotel, East Syracuse,
N.Y.
In addition, the New York State
Forage & Grasslands Council is a
co-sponsor of the 1989 conven
tion, and they will be hosting
meetings and seminars.
Four beef breed associations
again will conduct their respective
annual business and other meet
ings on this weekend. They arc the
NY Angus Assoc.; NY Charolais
Assoc.; NY Shorthorn Assoc.; and
NY Simmcntal Assoc.
The NYS Forage & Grasslands
Council has scheduled an out
standing morning and early after
noon program on Friday, January
6. Their annual luncheon is at
noon with Commissioner Donald
Butcher, NYS AG & Markets, dis
cussing “Ag 2000 and the Future
of Livestock Production in New
York.”
Dr. Vivian Allen of V.P.1., Vir
ginia will present “Beef on For
age: Conception to Slaughter”,
which should be of great interest
to beef producers here in the
Northeast. Dr. Robert Luccy ol
Cornell will discuss a trip he and
other forage specialists partici
pated in this past summer. His pre
sentation is “Livestock Production
Systems in Ireland.” Dr. Dan Fox
of Cornell and Darrell Emmick of
USDA SCS will discuss a 10-year
summary of pasture research at
the Cornell Teaching & Research
Center, Harford, N.Y.
NYBCA is sponsoring a Prog
rams Update on Friday afternoon.

mance Testing” and “On Farm
Evaluation.” Bill Greene, Cornell

Dale Humphrey will headline
the Friday evening banquet. Hum
phrey of Spnngvillc, Ind., is presi
dent of the National Cattlemen’s
Assoc. NCA is the national
spokesman for the beef cattle
industry, representing 230,000
professional cattlemen, including
members of 71 aflilialcd (includ
ing NYBCA) stale cattle and
national breed organizations.
In 1985, Humphrey served as
chairman of NCA’s agricultural
policy committee. In, 1984, he
served as NCA Region 1 vice pres
ident, and was an NCA executive
committee member, Humphrey
also has served as both chairman
and vice-chairman of the NCA
resolutions committee and as
chairman of the sub-committee on
affiliate relations.
Humphrey has held every office
of his state affiliate, the Indiana
Beef Cattle Assoc. He also helped
found the Lawrence County Cat
tlemen’s Assoc, in 1964, a group
which has had a major impact on
the development of the cattle
industry in southern Indiana.
Humphrey has reared on the
general crop and livestock farm
which he now operates in partner
ship with his son, Brian. The
1,900 acre operation centers
around a 400 head commercial
cow herd, with the yearling steers
and replacement heifers being
grazed on hill country grass. Hum
phrey and his wife, Peggy, have
three grown children.
On Saturday, January 7, the
NYBCA, NY Calllcwomcn and
the four beef breed organizations
will conduct their respective annu
al business meetings. The Annual
Awards Luncheon will be at

of the Year,” “Calllcwoman of the
Year,” the “Youth Award,” and
‘Best Feeder Calf Pens” will be
announced.
This year’s Saturday luncheon
speaker is Jane Lmdcman, Beef
Cook-Ofl and Merchandising
Coordinator for the Beef Industry
Council of the National Live
Stock and Meal Board. She will
discuss bringing the National Beef
Cook-Olf to New York Stale. For

of lax law changes affecting indi
viduals and businesses, changes in
lax forms, and critical issues when
filing the 1988 tax return. Handout
materials will be provided to sup
port discussion by the Instructors.
