Joshua And Abby
Pedal For Fun
And Trophies
BY LOU ANN GOOD
FLEETWOOD (Berks)
“Come on, Abby,” Joshua encour
ages, “pedal!”
If you happen to pass through
Fleetwood farming country, you
might find Abby and Joshua pull
ing a hay bale attached to their ped
al tractor.
It isn’t that they enjoy working
so hard, but this brother and sister
arc strengthening their muscles for
tractor pulling competitions.
Both have won numerous
awards at tractor pulling contests
held in Berks and Lancaster coun
ties. Both started competing in
tractor pulls when they were three
ycars-old. Now, Abby is 6 years
old and Joshua, 8.
Abby admitted that it’s more fun
to race on their tractors than it is to
drag hay bales.
“But,” Joshua explained, “We
need to develop our muscles.”
They don’t spend all their time
developing their muscles. Thcydo
a lot of other fun things.
Both like playing with their
baby sister, Rebecca, who is ele
ven months old.
Twenty-eight dolls fill Abby’s
bed. Her favorite is one named
Vera that was made by her Aunt
Vera.
On Joshua’s bed are 36 teddy
bears. He needs to throw many of
them off his bed so he can find a
place to sleep. Some of the bears
take turns sleeping next to him.
Others he dresses and puts hats and
glasses on them.
Joshua also has collected 1,155
baseball cards.
The children have lo go down a
long lane to the school bus stop.
Lucky for them, their dad takes
them to the school bus stop or a

3-whcclcr. But if it is snowing,
they ride out on a snowmobile.
At school, Joshua likes recess
and gym. His sister likes Show and
Tell and taking newspapers arti
cles to show.
When they grow up, Joshua
wants to be a farmer and help his
dad, Floyd Kurtz, on their 110-acre
farm.
Abby said, “I want to sew.” She
sees her mother, Beth, stitching
many nice things. Already, Abby
has finished a sewing project. She
drew a heart, cut it out and stitched
a design on it so she could hang it
on the wall.
If you ever get to a tractor pull,
watch for Abby and Joshua Kurtz.
They already had many trophies
and ribbons and they’re sure to
cam some more.
“Bye, Mom.” Abby and Joshua Kurtz
hitch a ride with their dad, Floyd, on the
3-wheeler. Each morning he takes
them to the school bus stop on the
3-wheeler or, If it is snowing, on the
snowmobile.
Look at jse trophies won by Abby and Joshua Kurtz of Fleetwood. In addition to
winning ribbons and trophies for tractor pulling skills, Abby won a pedal tractor.
