leaders. Paul Wolgemulh Jr., an
Elizabethtown egg producer,
chaired the meeting.
After discussion, the representa
tives decided that the next step is to
approach two national organiza
tions, United Egg Producers and
the American Egg Board, and ask
their help. Specifically the Egg
Board will be asked to consider
promotion on the aspects' of the
program and, it is hoped, that the
United Egg Producers will give
input in drawing up a supply man
agment plan.
Wenger stressed, “The meeting
was strictly discussion. Proposals
were not drawn up.”

Some discussion centered on
methods of financing a possible
supply management plan and
promotion. Also, a follow-up
survey was suggested. But, at this
point, no additional steps will be
taken in that direction until the
committee meets with the national
organizations.
Since egg producers suffered
losses totaling $26 million last
year, they are scrambling to gain
control of a declining market and
spiraling prices.
Wolgemuth with a committee
composed of concerned producers
from Lancaster County, die largest
egg producing county in the
nation, met with Dr. Madison and
drew up the questionaire that was

mailed to 2,100 producers nation
wide. The survey elicited
responses from producers who
supply 70 percent of the eggs

whelming belief that some type of
supply management and market

egg industry.
To pursue further direction, the
committee planned the Chicago

insight from nationwide egg
producers.
