has been appointed University of
Delaware Extension agricultural
agent for Sussex County, effective
Oct 1.
Rider, a native of New York,
holds a bachelor of science degree
in general agriculture from Cor
nell University.
For the past two years, as Uni
versity of Delaware Extension
assistant for vegetable crops, Rid
er assisted Extension vegetable
crop specialist Ed Kee with field
trials. She collected and summar
ized data on several variety and
herebicide trials, including water
melon, cantaloupe, lima beans and
peas.
As one of three Sussex County
agents, Rider will advise county
farmers in person and by phone
about fertility programs and man
agement for water quality, feeds
and cropping. In addition, she will
assist with answering homeow
ners’ calls on gardening problems.
Rider, a member of the county
Agents Association, will also
write articles for and coordinate
production of the monthly county
newsletter.
Rider grew up on a dairy farm
in upstate New York. She and her
husband Robert live near
Bridgeville.
