industry. Dr. J. E. Slauter, Mis
souri state veterinarian and chair
man of the pseudorabies commit
tee, said the program standards
adhere closely to an eradication
plan drawn up and approved by
the pork industry.
They call for a five stage prog
ram A preparatory stage
involving formation of state advis
ory committees, which 40 of the
states have already done, control,
mandatory herd cleanup, surveil
lance and finally free.
United States Animal Health

The psuedorabies committee
heard reports on developments on
a number of new gene-deleted
vaccines and accompanying diag
nostic tests. The organization
approved a resolution calling for
rapid evaluation for official status
of the first diagnostic test which
can differentiate between vaccine
titers and those resulting from
field exposure.
Another resolution involves
infection of feral swine with
pseudorabies, swine brucellosis
and other diseases. The organiza
tion called for a workshop to dis
cuss the significance of this reser
voir of infection in wild pigs as a
potential hazard to the health of
domestic swine and to develop a
program of research and
surveillance.
