Last week my husband and I
took a bus trip to the Pocono
Mountains. The foliage was very
beautiful despite the fact that it
was a cloudy day. We even saw
several deer on the grounds of
Unity House Resort where we had
lunch and heard the Sammy Kay
Orchestra. The restaurant area was
huge and seated 500 people.
When we got home we learned
that friends from Texas were in
Lancaster County and would be
visiting the following morning. So
I baked an apple coffee cake as the
cherry pie and pumpkin pie from
two days ago were eaten. They
have a clock shop and when I
showed them my antique gold
watch on a chain they took it apart
to determine its age. It belonged to
my husband’s aunt and has her ini-
tials on the front.
This morning our son and his
wife flew out of Philadelphia to
Chicago to attend a wedding. Just
before he left the chain on the feed
conveyor broke and now that will
be one extra job as the cows must
be fed. My extra job, while they
are gone four days, is to feed their
two dogs. A young man will come
in the evening to help Allen tend
the 100 head of livestock.
Something ate my sweet pota
toes this year. When the leaves
began to die, I could see big and
little holes every foot or so along
the ridge of sweet potatoes. The
plants had nothing below the
ground. Was it mice, rats, moles
or what? I won’t have to worry
about their keeping until I can use
them.
