Hereford KANSAS CITY, Mo. The 11th Annual American Royal Hereford-Polled Hereford Steer Show is scheduled for November 6, 1988, in the American Royal Livestock Show Arena in Kansas City. Interest from beef cattle pro ducers and other major livestock shows have contributed to the show’s success and encouraged the continuation of this American Royal event. How About Yours/ Steer Show Scheduled For November American Royal Livestock Show and several community and industrial organizations share sponsorship in the terminal show. Entries are open to all 4-H, FFA, AHA and APHA junior members with a Hereford or Polled Hereford steer calved on or after March 1, 1987. Steers must be sired by a registered Hereford or Polled Hereford dam. Both the breeder and exhibitor are required to certify the birthdate and an cestry of the entry. All entries will be subject to age, parentage verifi cation and a breed classification committee. Entries will be weighed prior to altering the showring and their individual weight-per-day-of-age information calculated. Dr. Doug Parrott of the University of Illi nois, Champaign-Urbana, will evaluate and place the classes divided by age. An index based 40 percent on live placing and 60 percent on car cass retail value-per-day-of-age will determine the steer’s final placing. Those five factors include a hot carcass weight of 575 to 800 pounds and marbling score of slight or better. Carcasses with slight degree of marbling must have a minimum .3-inch backfat cover, 1.1 or more pounds carcass wcight-per-day-of-agc and USDA cutability yield grade of three or better.
