A2Q-L«ncaster Farming, Saturday, October 29, 1988 Thanks and Praise Dished Out At Lancaster 4-H Dairy Banquet BY PAT PURCELL QUARRYVILLE (Lancaster) The Lancaster County 4-H dairy show season drew to a close for many of its members as they received praise and awards at their annual banquet held at Solanco Fair building last week. The accomplishments of so many young people met with much deserved applause, but without the generous support of sponsors and guidance from leaders and advi sors the 4-H would not hold the opportunity that it does today. Milton Brubaker of Lititz, Elvin Hess of Strasburg and Kenneth Eshleman of Manheim were hon ored for over 25 years of service. Also honored for service were: Gary Akers of Quarryville; Robert Kindig, Conestoga; Dale Hershey, Paradise; Richard Hess, Strasburg; Robert L. Kauffman, Jr., Peach Bottom; Joe Wivell of Columbia; George Bard, Conestoga; Robert Wenger, Quarryville; Dale Olver, Lancaster; Alfred Wanner, Nar von; George Campbell, Ronks; Tom Anowsmith, Peach BOttom. The Lancaster County 4-H Dairy Bowl team placed first at Penn State, second in the nation and will be competing in the national Contest at Louisville, Ky. next week. Dale Olver, sire anal yst, and George Bard coached the team to coming very close to win ning the national contest which was held in San Diego, California this year. Dairy bowl team mem bers are Robert Barley, Conestoga; Eugene Hess, Marietta, Matthew Wanner, Narvon and Tom Wiker, Hollwood. The Dairy Judging team placed second in the state competition with solid performances by team members. Tom McCauley of Eli zabethtown placed fifth in the state: Tom Barley of Conestoga, eighth and Tom Wiker of Holt wood, 12th and Denise Mills of Lancaster also competed. Atlantic Breeders announce the shows, provide show hats, provide public address sys tem and award show halters to the champion first year showman.
