4-H Credited
when she became one of two head
counselors for the Mercer County
4-H junior campout in June.
Her organizational skills were
employed as she planned activities
for the day-and-a-half camp. Her
social skills were used to help trou
ble shoot and solve problems. Her
domestic knowledge helped her
make lunch for the youngsters.
Finally the confidence she gained
through public speaking enabled
her to lead the campers in song.
Kim, the daughter of Margaret
and John Remain, became
involved with 4-H 10 years ago as
a seven-year-old. She has been
active in several projects including
goats, leader programs, and photo
graphy. “I enjoy goats most,” she
commented. “I’ve shown them at
4-H shows and the Butler-Area
Dairy Goat Association show.”
She keeps her breeding goats at
the family farm, a 109-acre opera
tion with beef and goats.
For Kim, perhaps the biggest
thing 4-H has taught her is leader
ship. And through leadership, she
has learned responsibility. “Four-
H has helped me to accept respon
sibility better and whatever I do
I’m not going to be completely
inexperienced. When I get a new
job to do, I can put together (know
ledge of how to do) tasks that I’ve
done before, and they will help me
to that job.”
As a 4-H’er Kim has partici
pated on the 4-H County Council
for three years including a stint as
county council secretary. She also
has assisted with 4-H Roundup
with things such as the box social,
small animals judging, and been a
judge of the pet show.
