All of the classes will be held m the Extension Training Center (unless indicated otherwise) which is located in the basement of the Farm and Home Center, 1383 Arcadia Road, Lancaster, Pa. Registration deadline for each of the activities is one full week before the meeting or the first of a series of workshops. Registration will be accepted on a first come basis. Unless you hear from us, please come to the meeting or the first class scheduled for the work shop in which you enrolled. Please call the Extension Office if you are unable to attend a class. Clothing Construction Workshops Sewing Basics 111- If you are a seamstress who has mastered the basic skirt and simple blouse, then you are ready for the challenge of Sewing Basics 111. This class is designed to build on previous learnings, and will focus on a classic shirt-look blouse or dress. New learnings will include yokes, collars, banded front openings, sleeves with cuffs and pockets. This is a hands-on class so bring a sewing machine or indicate if you would like to borrow one of ours. No machine needed for the first class, but bring a tape measure and a pencil. Class Limit; 12. INSTRUCTOR: Mary Alice Fyock. Cost: $30.00. Workshop #1- 9:30 a.m.-ll:30 a.m., October 19,26, November 2, 9, 16, 23. Ultrasuede Or Facile Skirt Workshop- Take the fear out of cutting into expensive, luxurious ultrasuede by doing it in a class under supervision. Leant the spe cial techniques used to sew this easy to care for fabric available in a wide range of fashionable colors. Bring your sewing machine (not needed for first class) and add a skirt to your wardrobe that is sure to become a favorite. If you need to borrow a sewing machine, indicate that on your registration form. Class Limit: 10. INSTRUCTOR: Mary Alice Fyock. Cost: $20.00. Workshop #2- 12:30 a.m.-2 30 p.m ' T ovcmber 1 and 12:00 p.m.- ,).m., November 8 and 15. Tailoring For Beginners- Does the word “tailoring” scare you? If you have an interest in learning to work with wool, but have been afraid to try on your own, this class is for you. You will leant step-by-step how to select an easy to work with fabric, how to sew and press wool, and will sew a lined skirt and jacket. The empha sis will be on simplicity, and a quality finished product using time saving materials and techniques. Students should have an interme diate level of sewing skill. This class will involve sewing in class. No machine needed for first class but bring a pencil and pad and tape measure. Class Limit: 15. INSTRUCTOR: Mary Alice Fyock; Cost: $35.00. Workshop #3- 12:30-2:30 p.m., Octobers, 10,17,31, November 7, 14 and 21. Sewing Machine Maintenance- When was the last Lancaster Extension Workshops time you serviced your machine, as recommended in the owner’s manual? Sewing machines are sen sitive to accumulations of lint, dust and thread pieces which collect in the moving parts of the machine. Lack of proper oiling and lubricat ing can also interfere with opti mum machine performance. If your machine starts sluggishly, is noisy, makes loose or skipped stitches, maybe it’s time for a thor ough cleaning. Why not bring in your machine and learn the basic maintenance procedures, includ ing tension and pressure adjustment. Participants arc requested to bring the following items to class: sewing machine, sewing machine oil, tweezers, brush for cleaning machine parts,"screwdrivers (the liny ones which came with your machine, and one medium size), threaded bobbin, spool of thread and small piece of scrap fabric to test thread tension, and your user manual.
