A34-Lancaster Farming, Saturday, October 1, 1988 Land Of Living Dominates National Guernsey Show BY PAT PURCELL HARRISBURG (Dauphin) “Those of you who are breeding Guernseys can be very proud of yourselves and you can give yourselves a big pat on the back;” said Robert Griggs of Mustang, Oklahoma, the National Guernsey Show judge. Griggs judged the Guernsey show which is held in conjunction with the Pennsylvania All- American Dairy show five years ago and he added that the quality of the classes was so much deeper in this year’s show. Griggs was especially impress ed with the outstanding class of three-year-olds. ‘This is the most outstanding class of animals which I have ever been privileged to judge. The pair at the top is exceptionally close,” said Griggs. The premier breeder, pre mier exhibitor banners as well as the first placed exhibitor’s herd went to John, Bonnie and Eli Ayars, owners of Land of the Liv ing Farm. Griggs pulled their 3-year-old, Guemdale Butchs Carol, “the cow with it all, ” said Griggs, for his National Guernsey Show grand champion. Carol is the daughter of Guemdale Jupiters Butch and Guemdale Jigs Chris. Crown Stone Farm, owned by William Schnebly of Clear Springs, Maryland, captured the two championships of the show.
