Judge Don Mayer confirmed this when he chose the Hampshire-Suffolk lamb as the grand champion of the West Lampeter Fair on Wednesday. About four hours later Grills was in the winner’s circle again, this time with the grand champion swine. Grills, who has been showing lambs for six years and pigs for two years, also showed last year’s grand champion lamb at Lampeter. The son of Harvey and Annamary Grills in Ephrata, Gary next will show his champion lamb at the Manheim Fair next week. Friday night, however, was the last public appearance for Grills’ DeKalb gilt On that night, the 215-pound hog and the other 100 swine were sold at auction as were the show’s beef animals. Judge Henry Gruber, left, selected this DeKalb gilt as the grand champion of the West Lampeter Fair swine show. Gary Grills, a Grassland FFA Chapter member, owned the 240-pound animal.
