Veteran, Beginner Top New Holland Lamb, Beef Shows William Krelder, or Willie the Butcher as he Is commonly known as, purchased Kristin Chupp’s grand champion lamb for $3.50 per pound. Red, Fred Weaver’s reserve grand champion steer, was sold to John Yoder, right,.of Yoder’s Country Market for $1.30 per pound. Garners Top Honors At New Holland Swine Show second-year 4-H’er Clark Stolt zfus captured the grand champion title at the New Holland Fair on Thursday. Hours later the 259-pound champion caught Doug Clemens’ eye as well when the Hatfield Packing representative purchased it for $4.20 per pound. Clark, the nine-year-old son of Ike and Julie Stoltzfus of Gordon ville, plans to bank his total earn ings from his this, his first grand champion. Another nine-year-old, Sheldon Hoover, drove his Berkshire-cross gilt to the reserve champion spot of the show. Judge Jim Parted, a York County swine breeder, liked the hog's length, leanness, and depth of muscle. The son of Lloyd and Elaine Hoover of Leola, Sheldon has been showing pigs for two years and this is his first brush with championship. John Wagner of White Oak Mills also liked the winning form of the reserve champion, bidding $2.60 per pound for the 225-pound animal. BY USA RISSER NEW HOLLAND (Lancaster) A veteran sheep and steer exhi bitor took home the purple rosette from the New Holland market lamb show, while the winning steer was led by a relative beginner. Kristin Chupp, a senior at Gar den Spot High School, exhibited a stylish 125-pound Suffolk named Jack that was judged to be the grand champion of its show. The 17-year-old daughter of Larry and Barb Weaver, Chupp later sold her prize-winning lamb to Willie the Butcher (William Kreider) for $3.50 per pound. Flipside, already a champion steer, won the day once again for Casey High, 10, the son of Larry and Mae High of Lititz. The 1,300-pound purebred Angus was slapped as grand champion by judge Brian Fitzgerald at the New Holland Fair’s beef show, going one title better than the Lancaster County 4-H Fair where the animal was reserve grand champion. High, a second-year 4-H’er, sold his champion to Elwood Mar tin of Shady Maple Farm Market ' for $2,015 or $1.55 per pound. Veteran showman Fred Weaver of Ephrata led a 1,280-pound Angus-Maine Anjou-Chiania cross named Red to reserve grand champion honors. Weaver, the son of Carol and Roy Weaver, pur chased the steer at Wolfe Farms in Indiana because the price was right. “When I got him home and cleaned him up, he looked pretty good so I kept him instead of sell ing him to someone else.” The steer attracted John Yoder’s attention at the sale, where the ani mal was sold for $1.30 per pound. The 130-pound lamb shown by Laura Folker, the 16-year-old daughter of Tony and Edith Folker of New Holland, was the reserve grand champion of the fair. Folker, a member of the Grassland FFA chapter, sold ha animal to Terry Kreider of Dauphin Deposit Bank in New Holland for $3 per pound.
