MADISON, Wi. —June may be
Dairy Month, but Dairy Week will
be the first week in October. The
twenty-second World Dairy Expo,.
the premiere trade show for the
dairy industry, will be held Octob
er 5-9, 1988 at the Dane County
Exposition Center in Madison,
Wisconsin. Dairy farmers, agricul
tural professionals and industry
leaders from around the world will
gather to share ideas, discuss com
mon concerns, view new technolo
gy, and show, buy, and sell some
of the world’s best dairy cattle.
For many, the dairy cattle shows
are the highlight of World Dairy
Expo. More than 1600 head of the
finest show cattle in North Ameri
ca will be competing to be named
tops in their respective breed.
Expo will host the National Ayr
shire Show, the Central National
shows for the Brown Swiss,
Guernsey, Holstein and Milking
Shorthorn breeds and the Midwest
Regional Jersey Show.
The commercial exhibits will be
open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
daily. This year’s show will fea
ture nearly 400 commercial exhi
bitors displaying the latest avail
able dairy farm technology, pro
ducts and services.
The Educational. Program will
begin Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.
with a discussion of international
milk supply management Special
guest speakers will include Jack
Lawson, represneting the Scotland
Milk Marketing Board, O.A.
Rountree of the Ayrshire Associa
tion of New Zealand, and Kenneth
G. McKinnon, Vice Chairman of
the Canadian Dairy Commission.
Thursday at 11:00 a.m., Dan
Natzke, a Wisconsin Dairy Far
mer, and Doug Maddox, a Califor
nia Dairy Farmer, will comment
on dairy farm labor management
Also, on Thursday, at 1:00 p.m. a
progrlam entitled “Who Will Own
Your Farm?” will be presented by
Attorney Richard Danger, Baric
Trust Officer Roman Borkovek,
and Myma Giraud, a widow who
operates a family farm.

World Dairy Expo Slated Oct. 5-9
Breeds Sale featuring Ayrshire and
Jersey cattle at 5:00 p.m. on Wed
nesday afternoon. Brown Swiss
sell in a separate offering at 4:00
p.m. on Thursday. The first of two
Holstein sales is also on Thursday
at 6:00 p.m. The Genetic Connec

Youth from across the United
States will travel to Expo to parti
cipate in National 4-H, Intercolle
giate and FFA dairy cattle judging
contests and junior showmanship
contests.

Wentworth, a com grower from
Oreana, 111., was unanimously
elected as the new president of the
National Com Growers Associa
tion (NCG A) at a recent meeting of
the association’s board of
directors.
Wentworth farms a 760-acre
operation in central Illinois where
he grows com and soybeans.
For the past year he has served
as NCGA’s first vice president,
and was vice president of market
development during the associa
tion’s 1986-87 fiscal year.
Keith Hora, Riverside, lowa,
will complete his current term as
NCGA president on October 1, at
which time Wentworth will
assume his presidential responsi
bilities. Hora will serve as NCGA
chairman for the next year.
Alan Kemper, Lafayette, Ind.,
was elected as first vice president
of the association. Elected to other
association posts were Mark
Rogen, Sherman, S.D., as secret
ary and Alan Larsen, Heron Lake,
Minn., as treasurer.
