Jansma is a professor of agricul
tural economics. Prior to his
appointment to the international
office, he taught courses in resour
ce economics and international
agriculture and conducted research
in rural development and resource
economics policy.
During his nearly 20 years in the
Department of Agricultural Eco
nomics and Rural Sociology, Jans
ma was primary academic advisor
to more than 20 graduate students
from developing countries. He
also participated in designing and
developing international agricul
tural agriculture projects in Africa
and Asia.
Before coming to Penn State,
Jansma was employed as an agri
cultural economist with USDA, a
research analyst with the U.S.
Government and a research assis
tant at lowa State University.
He has a bachelor of science and
master of science degrees from
lowa State and a Ph.D. from Okla
homa State University.
