NEWARK, DE Three cooperative extension agents from Delaware have been recognized by the National Association of Coun ty Agricultural Agents (NACAA) for their programs in crop produc tion, career guidance and public information. University of Delaware exten sion agricultural agent Derby Walker was one of four regional winners in a crop production prog ram competition sponsored by Ciba-Geigy Corp. Walker was honored for developing and carry ing out an outstanding educational program for watermelon growers. He received a certificate and a S2OO cash award. First place regional honors went to Glenn Layton, former Delaware State College extension horticul tural agent, for his career guidance program activities, particularly in the area of agribusiness. Rich Barczewski, University of Delaware extension agricultural agent, won a second place national award in the news letter category for his quarterly, “Delaware Sheep New.” He received a certificate and $5OO. In the direct-mail category, he placed second regionally. Layton was third among regional winners in the slide set category. The sponor of these communications awards was RJR Nabisco., Inc. Layton also placed second in the region in the turfgrass/horliculture communications program compet ition, sponsored by Lesco, Inc. The awards were presented at the annual NACAA national meet ing in Charlotte, N.C., August 14-19.
