; armlng, Saturday, August 6, 1988 .ancaster Heavyweight Barrow Lebanon’s Grand Ch BY LISA RISSER LEBANON Beating out nearly 100 hogs, the 243-pound Hampshire-York cross barrow shown by Kelly Bachman of Annvilte was declared grand champion at the Lebanon Fair’s Swine Show on Monday. Judge Henry Holloway described the barrow as extra long sided yet heavily muscled. Bachman, 17, has been showing hogs for nine years, the same amount of lime that she’s been a 4-H’cr. She’s had two grand champion hogs before this win, and at last year’s Lebanon Fair, she showed the grand champion steer. The barrow and the reserve grand champion, a gilt, were bred by Arnold Hog Farm in Lebanon and Womclsdorf. Ninc-ycar-old Justin Lehman of Palmyra had his first reserve grand champion this year with a 235-pound Duroc-York- Hampshirc cross. Justin is a second-year 4-H’cr and has been showing hogs lor two years. The lightweight championship title went to Kara Arnold, who also won the carcass class. Mall Bucher was named the reserve lightweight champion with his 213-pound hog. On lop in the mcdiumwcight divi sion was 13-year-old Darren Grumbinc, who showed a 227-pound swine. The reserve mcdiumwcight champion was exhibited by Jay Klcmfcltcr. Win ning the light heavy weight champ ionship was Lehman with his gilt, while Greg Bomgardner took reserve light heavyweight champ ion with the second-place hog out of Lehman’s weight class. Bach man’s grand champion was the heavyweight champion, and reserve heavyweight champion ship honors went to Melanie Bushong’s 238-pound hog. Five youths competed in the FFA division of the showmanship/ fitting competition. Winning this contest was Jay Kleinfclter, who did a good job watching the judge and controlling his hog. Winning the 4-H competitions were, Daryl Grumbine, 16-19 year £lass; Jay Kleinfclter, 14-15 year class: Amy Hamish, 12-13 year class: Greg Bomgardner, 10-11 year class; and Katie Lefever, 8-9 year class. The grand champion showman and filter was 16-ycar old Daryl Grumbinc of Lebanon, who remained unruffled while handling his hog and others in the competition, maintained good watch on the judge, and controlled his ' skillfully. In Lebanon County Pork Carcass Show, Kara Arnold’s 256-pound hog was judged champion. In the reserve spot was the 263-pound hog owned by Todd Balsbaugh. LlgMwrigM Division Class 1 1.
