This Dairy of Distinction with attractive fields, buildings and lawn rep
resents the 94 dairy farms across Pennsylvania that have qualified for
the recognition this year. The program rewards farm families who have
farmsteads that look nice and provides encouragment for others to
>eautify their farms. In so doing, It gives consumers a favorable impress

GOVERNOR’S PROCLAMATION
Robert P. Casey, Pennsylvania’s Governor,
proclaimed August 14-20 as Dairy of Distinc
tion Week. And in his proclamation he said the
hard work of dairy farmers “placed our Com
monwealth in the top five dairy states in the
nation.”
In 1987 Pennsylvania’s commercial dairy
farms produced a record 10.18 billion pounds of
milk, and contributed 1.3 billion dollars to our
state’s economy. Dairy farming has been one of
the key factors in agriculture’s emergence as
Pennsylvania’s number one industry.
“In addition to their efficiency and productiv
ity, however, Pennsylvania’s dairy farmers also
take great pride in the appearance of their
farms,” Casey said. “I urge all citizens to join in
