COLDWATER, OH Featur ing a modular-component, shaft driven cutterbar that provides low maintenance and easy serviceabili ty, the New Idea 5209 disc mower conditioner eliminates reel gather ing and offers a superior cutting performance over a sickli mower. The cutterbar features seven discs that are driven by a hex drive shaft, which is nearly 20 percent stronger than a square shaft. Each disc-dnve unit is independent and sealed from companion units. The heavy-duty strength of the oval disc gives the 5209 increased ser vice life than other discs. Each disc has two reversible knives for lon ger life. The high-speed cutting of the 5209 directly feeds the crop into the intermeshing conditioning rolls from the cutterbar. Excellent conditioning roll performance is provided by compressed rubber tire material. Each conditioning roll is independently driven from the gearbox. A single gearbox pro-' vides power for both the condition ing rolls and the cutterbar. The 5209 main frame is built over the header instead of under or behind it. What we don’t know is how severe the impact will be.” A lot depends on how much rain docs or doesn’t fall between tasscling and pollination. “It’s an unanswered question,” Haas points out. “But chances are com planted early in clean, fertile areas could still produce satisfactory yields.” All of Funk’s seed com, spread across 14 different growing areas, was planted early and good stands were recorded in late June. “AH our seed fields were assured of optimum fertility,” Haas says. “In fact, 98 percent of Funk’s seed com was planted in first-year com BUSINESS NE Manager Named For Agway’s Lancaster LANCASTER Agway Ener gy Products has announced a new manager for their Lancaster operation.
