PHILADELPHIA—In keeping
with Philadelphia’s rich ice cream
heritage, thousands of ice cream
affectionados converged on Inde
pendence Mall July 6 to celebrate
“Everyday Is Sundae.” The ice
cream celebration was sponsored
by MAMMA, the Middle Atlantic
Milk Marketing Association, with
the support of nine ice cream man
ufacturers who provided the main
ingredient for the celebration, over
24,000 samples of hand dipped
and novelty ice cream treats.
Ice cream lovers were treated to
the latest flavors by Ben & Jerry’s,
Bassetts, Richman’s and Kraft
Dairy Group (Breyers). Rosenber
ger’s “Mr. Big” cone made a big
hit, as did Turkey Hill’s new Gour
met Lite, Jack & Jill’s ice cream
sandwiches, Haagen Dazs new
Blueberry & Cream, and Abbotts
“Drumsticks.”
Batman, the disc jockey, enter
tained the crowd with music and
ice cream trivia as they enjoyed
their just desserts. While the public
was getting their licks in, Philadel
phia restaurants were competing in
