Harshbarger Crowned

MIFFLINTOWN (JuniaUi)
Shelly Harshbarger is the 1988
Juniata County Dairy Princess.
Crowned on June 17 at the Mifflm
town Fire Hall, Harshbarger is the
daughter of Sheldon and Ann
Harshbarger of Mifflmlown. The
16-year-old will be a senior at
Juniata High School.
Chosen as Alternate Dairy Prin
cess was 16-year-old Shawncllc
Krepps of East Waterford. She is
the daughter of Karl and Janie
Kline. Shawncttc also will be a
senior at Juniata High School in
the fall.
Each contestant presented a
creative skit on the value of milk
and milk products.
Shelly Harshbarger, center, is crowned the 1988 Juniata
County Dairy Princess by outgoing Princess Marjorie,
Shearer, right. Shawnette Krepps is this year’s alternate
dairy princess for the county.

Shawnette sat in a rocking chair as
she read to her teddy bear the val
ues of milk. She emphasized that
parents are the best teachers of the
wholesomcncss of dairy products.
The new dairy princess is very
active m school and community
activities. Shelly is a member of
the National Honor Society and
Students Against Drunk Driving
(SADD) at school. She also plays
softball and volleyball and belongs
to the Masque and Gavel Club.

Shelly assist her parents on their
430-acrc Scenic Hill Farm, which
includes 75 Holslcins (of which 9
are hers). She is a member of the
Lost Creek 4-H Dairy Club and
attends the Arch Rock United
Methodist Church. She also enjoys
swimming and biking.
Shawneltc lives on a 98-acrc
dairy farm with 68 Holstcins. An
active helper on the farm, she
assists with the chores and owns
one dairy animal.
Miss Krepps attends the Cross
Keys United Methodist Church
and is active in Girl Scouts. Her
hobbies include cross stitching and

sports. She plans to attend Elec
tronics Institute after graduation.
Shelly was crowned by the 1987
Juniata County Dairy Princess,
Marjorie Shearer. Marjorie made
several remarks about her experi
ences as dairy princess the past
year.
The pageant opened with a milk
punch social and ended with a sun
dae bar. A total of 64 patrons sup
ported the event.
Dave Filson served as Master of
Ceremonies for the pageant. The
program was sponsored by the
Juniata County Holstein Club.
Judges for the evening were Mr.
