Applica tions arc being accepted from Cecil, Kent, and Queen Anne’s Counties for the 1988 Upper Shore Dairy Princess Contest held in conjunction with the 27th Annual Maryland Dairy Princess Contest. The purpose of the Dairy Pnncess program is to promote milk and milk products. The program is sponsored by the state’s dairy industry. The Upper Shore Dairy Princess Contest is tentatively scheduled for Friday evening, June 17,1 988. Rules for the contest are: 1. Candidate must maintain residency within the territorial boundaries of Maryland. 2. The candidate must live on a dairy farm where milk was pro duced within the last four years and/or must have carried a dairy related project for at least two program years (4-H and/or FFA programs) except dairy goats and dairy steers. 3. The candidate may enter the area contest only in the area where the family maintains residency. 4. The candidate must have completed her Junior year of high £k school and will not reach her 22nd birthday by December 31 of the year of the contest. 5. Applicant must have parents’ consent if under 18 years of age. 6. Applicant must not be or have been married. 7. Applicant cannot marry dur ing her reign. 8. Applicant must be available for personal appearances during the year and must agree to meet reasonable requirements set forth by the area and state committees. The winner of the Upper Shore Dairy Princess pageant will be eligible to vie, at the state level, for the title of Maryland Dairy Princess. Since 1961, 26 state princesses and hundreds of local princesses have served as spokespersons for the Dairy Industry in Maryland. They appear at shopping malls, fairs, supermarkets and on radio and television to educate consum ers about the dairy farmer’s product.
