FUTURES MARKET TRENDS
GRAIN AND LIVESTOCK
Acres Corn Update: com
futures today closed unchanged to 1/4 cent
higher with buying attributed to last
minutes short covering. Speculation cen
tered on rumors that CCC may Mice steps to
slow the purchase of CCC catalog com with
talk centering on ideas that the CCC would
soon begin to allow warehousemen storing
CCC com to continue holding it if storage
fees were reduced. Rain forecuts and news
that recent export sales were disappointing
pressured the market along with lower basis
values.
Acres Soybean Update:
Soybean futuiei doted lower again today,
with settlements above setticn lows. New
crop loner were pared by confusion over
conflicting weather reports. Old crop lost
on the unwinding of May/July spreads
along with fears of higher deliveries during
the next few weeks. Concerns over the
South American competition also weighed
on the old crop options, settling May 5 cents
lower and July 3-1/4 cents lower. Novem
ber dosed at <7 08-3/4, down 2-1/4 after

trading to a high of $7.12 earlier in the
session.
Acres Wheat Update:
Wheal futures prices staged a slight recov
ery today with closes 1-3/4 to 3-3/4 cents
higher. Buying was attributed to short cov
ering late in the session and ideas that the
the market had became oversold and fore
casts for dry weather in the spring wheat
regions. Gains were limited by slack
exports and commissionhouse long liquida
tion. May closed out the day 3-3/4 cents
better at $3.01-1/2.
Acres Cattle Update:
Cattle future! teuled mixed to lower with
the spot option 3 higher and the deferred!
from 15 to S 3 lower.
Active fed cattle trade and the ongoing
future! discount to caih provided luppoit
for the June option. Ptenure in the deferred

ACRES NEXT DAY OUTLOOK: cash
-steady futures-steady to lower.
Acres Hog Update: Live
hog futures closed higher in a flurry of late
buying with gains magnified by market on
close buy orders. All of this activity was
generated by the June option’s ability to
break through technical resistance, with
many speculating that the market has
defined its bottom and it poised to trade
higher. Ideas that cuh prices will continue
to firm relative to futures added further sup
port. Closet today ranged from 17 to 95
higher.
ACRES NEXT DA Y OUTLOOK; cuh -
