Rachael Hixenbaugh of Beaver
(Beaver) showed the champion
ewe, making it her fourth in a row.
Her home-bred ewe competed in
the open show, placing first in its
class. Hixenbaugh, who has been
showing here for eight years, has
20 Suffolk. “I believe in quality,
not quantity,” she staled. “I
haven’t had many, but they’ve
been good ones. I’ve always
stressed that.”

vailed in the draft horse hitched
competition during the 1988 Farm
Show, and the winners’ list con
tained familiar names. ;
Claiming blue ribbons were
Abraham W. Allebach and Pen
woods Percherons, Centre County;
Robert W. Decker, Somerset
County, and Larry B. Omdorff,
Adams County.
Allebach, of Spring Mills, cap
tured blue ribbons with his entries
in the one hitched horse open and
youth-to-drive classes. Penwoods
won in the ladies-to-drive division.
Decker, a resident of the Garrett
area, led the field in the team and
the unicorn competition.

took home the award for the best
four-horse hitch.
Another familiar family name
associated with Pennsylvania draft
horses, the Alfred Rovenolts of
Turbolville, Northumberland
County, were second in team hitch.
Daughter Stacey, a winner at last
fall’s Keystone International
Livestock Exposition, won the
junior showmanship award, while
Jennifer Biddle of Boalsburg,
Centre County, took senior show
manship honors.
