Jack & Ella Chyle, Pleasant Mount had the leading dairy
herd in the Wayne County Dairy Herd Improvement Asso
ciation in the October test period, according to the
Cooperative Extension Service. The herd of 63 Holsteins
had a rolling herd average of 21,954 pounds of milk and
760 pounds of butterfat.
Other top herds were: Kevin Burleigh, Pleasant Mount,
20,784 milk and 754 fat; Charles P. Dennis, #2 Honesdale,
20,034 milk and 722 fat; James Slocum, Susquehanna,
18,365 milk and 695 fat; Frank Marks, #1 Damascus,
19,166 milk and 695 fat; Kinghill Farm, Starrucca, 17,618
milk and 681 fat; Highland Farm, St. Rt. Honesdale, 19,877
milk and 681 fat; Rowe Brothers, #2 Honesdale, 18,352
milk and 676 fat; John Worobey, Thompson, 17,769 milk
and 676 fat; and Robert Fielding & Son, R.DJS Lake Ariel,
17,855 milk and 674 fat.
The cow completing the highest lactation of 305 days or
less during the October test period was a five year old Hols
tein owned by James Woodmansee, Lake Como. "Lyn*
produced 21,285 pounds of milk and 932 pounds of
butterfat.
Other top producers were "Mandy* owned by Allan
Schnakenberg, Equinunk, 21,567 milk and 892 fat; ‘Babe'
owned by Ronald Peck, Pleasant Mount, 1,912 milk and
887 fat; “Trudy’ owned by Clearfield Farms, #2 Honesdale,
27,447 milk and 886 fat; ‘Mona* owned by Kevin Burleigh,
Pleasant Mount, 24,867 milk and 864 fat; ‘Dana’ owned by
Rowe Brothers, #2 Honesdale. 22,986 milk and 861 fat;
“Janis' owned by Roger & Barb Glover, Starruoca, 25,592
milk and 846 fat; ‘Dixie* owned by James Slocum, #3 Sus
quehanna, 21,985 milk 845 fat; ‘Seven’ owned by Rowe
Brothers, 20,676 milk and 841 fat and ‘Whitey* owned by
Rowe Brothers, 21,737 milk and 840 fat.
