liealth testing and semen identifi
cation for the United State’s artifi
cial insemination industry. It is the
means whereby the industry regu
lates itself.

research assistant after complet
ing M.S. and Ph.D degrees in

members and guests woe present
for the Owen J. Roberts Young
Farmers Association’s 14th annual
fall family banquet held in the high
school cafeteria.
Opening remarks were made by-
Mr. Ben Kolb, president and by
Ms. Elisa Wilkerson, Chester
County Dairy Princess.
“The Amazing” Larry Vee pro
vided the entertainment for the
evening.
Chet Raught, Owen J. Roberts’
Agriculture Teacher and advisor to
the Young Farmers, awarded the
trophies and plaques to the winners
of the com growing and cow pro
duction contests for 1987.
This year there are 29 entries in
the com growing contest. Carl and
Jeff Yoder of Elverson won first
place with a yield of 196.8 bushels
per acre. Second was Gary Stolt
zfus, also of Elverson, with a yield
of 186.7 bushels. Third was Joe

Brown, R.D. 4, of Pottstown had
178.9 bushels good for fourth
place and fifth was Peter Miller,
Ridge Road, Spring City with a
yield of 174.3 bushels per acre.
In the cow production contest
with 10 Holstein herds entered,
Tom Kearns R.D. 1, Pottstown had
the top herd average for milk with
20,151 pounds. Second was Stan
Guest and family, R.D. 2, Potts
town with 19,543 pounds. Guest
also had the top herd for butterfat
with an average of 759 followed
closely by Ridgelea Dairy of
Bucktown with 756 pounds.
In the two year old cow class
first for milk was a cow owned by
Roy and Leroy Kolb of R.D. 1,
Spring City with 24,100 pounds of
milk. Second with 22,023 pounds
was a two year old owned by Hor
ace and Mike Mowrer, also of R.D.
1, Spring City. For butterfat‘Tara”
owned by the Guests had 825

pounds and Sam Morris, ofR.D. 2,
Potts town had a cow with 779
pounds of fat. There were a total of
14 cows entered in the two year old
class.
The three year old cows, also
with 14 entries, had as the winner
for the milk with 28,629 pounds a
cow owned by Ben Kolb, R.D. 1,
Spring City. Mr. Kolb also had
second place with 25,920 pounds.
In fat, Mr. Kolb also had second
place with 961 pounds and first
place went to the Guests with 1000
pounds of butterfat.
The winners in the four year old
class out of 15 entries were “Bess”
with 27,478 pounds of milk and
“Josie” witfi 1093 pounds of fat.
Both are owned by Guests. In sec
ond place for milk with 26,327
pounds was a cow owned by Bob
Hewitt ofR.D. 1, Spring City, and
second for fat, owned by Ridgelea
Farm, was “Batinna” with 1056
pounds.
In the Aged Cow class first for
milk, owned by the Guests was
“Lass” with 28,507 pounds. In sec
ond place for both milk and fat was
“Ellen” with 27,009 pounds of
milk and 1136 pounds of fat.
“Ellen” is owned by Tom Kems.
First place cow for butterfat was
“Lilly” owned by Carl and JefSf
Yodor, with 1212 pounds of but
terfat. There were a total of 16
entries in this class.

group of out of high school men
and women interested in Agricul
