Women’s Ag Forum Learns Marketing Is Key

ANNAPOLIS, Md.—Over 150
people attended the two-day
Women’s Agricultural Forum in
Annapolis on November 18 and
19. Participants in the forum heard
experts in the field of agriculture,
met with others involved in pro
duction of agricultural products,
and were afforded a glimpse of the
future.
“You can not stop technology,”
declared the featured speaker. Dr.
Lowell Catlett, Ag Economist with
New Mexico State University.
“Either embrace it or hide your
head in the sand,” he continued.
Dr. Catlett estimated that by the
year 2000, there will be 500,000

of robotics,” predicted Dr. Catlett
He reported on several patents for
the use of robotics in agriculture at
the present. Robots measure soil
conditions and precisely apply
what is needed. Robotic tractors
and harvesters are also in the

higher profit margins in non
traditional ventures such as pick
your-own crops, aquaculture, and
bed and breakfast operations. He
also reported on the newly estab
lished buying station in Western
Maryland which provides an outlet
