The purpose of these projects is to build skids in specific areas of interest, increase career aware ness, and develop leadership, char acter, and initiative. 4-H is the youth branch of the Cooperative Extension System. Awards in the various project areas are sponsored by major U.S. companies. The teenagers will represent Delaware at the National 4-H Congress in Chicago, December 5 through 10. Jennifer Messick Multi-talented 4-H’er Jennifer Messick (16) of Bridgeville has won a place on the Delaware dele gation to the National 4-H Con gress in Chicago this month. During the past 5 years the Greenwood teenager has baked more than 340 bread items as part of her project, which is sponsored by Flcis chmann’s Yeast Co. Ron Jemigan Ron Jemigan (16) of Seaford will head for Chicago early next month as one of the Delaware dele gates to the National 4-H Con gress. Jemigan, who plans to pursue a career in the automotive field, estimates he put in more than 1,000 hours and saved himself more than $13,000 restoring a 1967 Ford Mustang, 1970 MG Midget and 1965 TR4 A as part of a 4-H petroleum power project His trip is being sponsored by Amoco Foundation, Inc. His place on the Dela ware delegation to the National 4-H Congress is being sponsored by Pfizer, Inc. and the National Pork Producers Association. After he finishes school, he plans a career in agribusiness. Karen Lolland Karen Lofland (16) of Green wood will join other Delaware del egates at the National 4-H Con gress in Chicago early next month. She won her trip with a successful public-speaking project sponsored by Unocal Corp. Jennifer Rumsey Jennifer Rumsey (16) of Clay ton poses with 4th Seeing-Eye pup she has raised as part of a 4-H dog care and training project. She esti mates she’s devoted 5,160 hours over the past 6 years to raising Seeing-Eye pups. Her first pup, Mitzi, did so well the dog was selected for the Seeing-Eye breed ing program.
