State 4- H Award Winners Off For National Congress UNIVERSITY PARK Pennsylvania is sending 45 4-H members to represent the state at the national congress held in Chicago this week. These youth have been selected from among the more than 105,000 people who take part in the Extension Service’s educational program. The Pennsylvania 4-H’ers will compete in various categories for scholarships prizes. A short biography of each state award winner is included below. Norma Andrie Norma Andrie, ■■■■■■■ Marion Center, (Indiana), was named state dairy foods awards B> ""‘'.BB winners in this year’s competi- tion. The daughter of Arthur and Doris Andrie, she is a junior at Indiana Wesleyan School. A 4-H member for six years, Andrie served as president, treasurer, and news reporter of her local club. She also assisted with club activities and events as song leader and teen leader and com pleted projects in dairyland, milk, food, clothing, entertainment, cooking, dairy animals, and trac tors. Andrie took part on the county level in 4-H achievement night, fashion revue, dairy bowl, and dairy-judging team. On the region al level, she participated in the fashion revue, 4-H activities day, and the district dairy show. Andrie also took part in state achievement days, the state farm show, and the Pennsylvania junior dairy show. Melissa Balter Melissa Balter, ■■■ Erie, (Clearfield), was named state veterinary sci- ence award win- ner. The daughter f f of Joseph and Magdalene Bal ter, she is a freshman at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Balter, who has been a 4-H mem ber for five years, served as presi dent and secretary of her local club. She also assisted with club activities and events as a teen leader and completed projects in veterinary science, horse, and wildlife. Balter took part in the Erie Zoo Parade as a representative of 4-H and was a horse bowl moderator on the county level. On the regional, state, and national levels. Balter participated on the horse bowl team. Balter is on the honors program at Edinboro and has been on the National Dean’s List Leslie Bartholomew Leslie Bartho- hhh| Royers (Mont- gomery), was a state food-nutri- pft lion award and food careers / \ scholarship award . winner in the 1987 national awards program. The daughter of Ralph and Cleola Bartholomew, she is a recent graduate of Spring-Ford Senior High School. Bartho lomew, who has been a 4-H member for 10 years, served as president, vice president, secre tary, and treasurer of' her local club. She also assisted in club activities and events as a game’, song, and teen leader and com pleted projects in food nutrition, leadership, stamp collecting, crafts, clothing, and child care. She took part in county and regional demonstrations, state demonstrations, Leadership Congress, and state achievement days. Lewis Beatty Lewis Beatty, Marion Center, (Indiana), was named state Ento- mology Award winner. JB The son of H Lewis and Karen Beatty, he is a sophomore at Marion Center High School. Beatty, who has been a 4-H member for eight years, served as president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and news reporter of his local 4-H club. He also assisted with club activities and results as a teen leader and completed projects in entomology, leadership, woodworking, dairy animals, conservation, gardening and wildlife and fisheries. Beatty took part in Achieve ment Night and a flower show on the county level. He also partici pated in Regional Activities, the State Farm Show, and Capitol Days. Kimberly Beishline Kimberly Beishline, Bloomsburg, (Columbia), was named state Clothing Award winner. The daughter of * x. Frank and Alice * Beishline, she is a senior at Central Columbia High School. Beishline, who has been a 4-H member for nine years, served as president, vice president, Secretary and news reporter of her local 4-H club. She also assisted in club activities and events such as a teen, game and song leader and completed pro jects in sewing, foods, riflery, macrame, fire safety, wildlife, photography, gardening, handy man, embroidery and crocheting. She took part in the county and regional Demonstrations and Fashion Revue. She also partici pated in the state Capitol Days, Leadership Congress, State Days and the Montana Exchange trip. Barbara Brenneman Barbara Bren- Seven Valleys, (York), was named state Food Preservation Award winner, w The daughter of Robert and Mary- i ann Brenneman, she is a junior at Spring Grove Senior High School. Brenneman, who has been'a 4-H member for eight years, served as secretary, treasurer and news reporter of her local 4-H club. She also assisted in with club activities and events as a teen leader and completed projects on foods, food preservation, gardening, clothing, ceramics and guns. Carla Clutter Carla Clutter, was named state Beef Award win- The daughter of “f** Earl and Carolyn ( j ' Clutter, she is a junior at McGuffey High School. Clutter, who has been a 4-H member for eight years, served as secretary and social chairman of her local 4-H club. She completed projects in beef, steers, sheep, lambs, horses, photography and leadership. She took part in the county and regional Demonstration Days and Livestock Judging. On the state level she participated in Livestock Judging, the Farm Show, State Days, Leadership Congress and Penn State Block and Bridle Judging. She also participated in National Beef Judging, National Charolais Conference and Shows and the Houston Livestock Show. Crystal Clutter Prosperity, (Washington), was named state Achievement A ward winner. f The daughter of . Earl and Carolyn 't Mk Lea Clutter, she is ’' a senior McGuffey High School. Clutter, who has been a 4-H member for 10 years, served as president, vice president, and news reporter of her local 4-H club. She completed projects in sheep. lambs, cattle, steers, horses, and photography. She took part in Demonstration Day and livestock judging on the count and regional level. On the state level she has participated in livestock judging, the Farm Show, State Days and Penn State Block and Bridle Judging. Nationally, Clutter was involved in beef cattle judging, exchange trips, National Charolais Conference and the Houston Livestock. Samuel Creveling Samuel Crevel- Stillwater, (Columbia), was named state Swine Award winner. Creveling is a at Benton Area High School and has been a 4-H member for seven years. He also served as president, vice president and game leader of his local 4-H club and assisted in club activities and events as a teen leader. Creveling completed projects in swine, beef, sheep, vegetables, air pistols and rifles, clothing, foods and woodworking. He took part in Day Camp and Fashion Revue, regional Swine Show and Teen Conference. He also participated in State Days, Leadership Congress, Capitol Days and the National Awards Banquet. Donna Dickinson Donna Dickin son, New Castle, (Lawrence), was named state Home Manage- ment winner, The daughtef of Katherine Dickin- son, she has been a 4-H member for 10 years. Dickinson served as president, vice president, secretary and news reporter of her local 4-H club. She has completed projects in clothing, coin collecting, candlewicking, weaving, crocheting, foods and sculpture. Larry Feeser Jr. Larfy Feeser _______ New Oxford, (Adams), was named state Pet roleum Power A- V ward winner. The son of Lar- fHfe ry and Feeser, he is a junior at New Oxford Senior High School. Feeser, who has been a 4-H member for nine years, served as president and news reporter of his local 4-H club. He also assisted in club activities and events as a teen leader and chairman of various local clubs. He completed projects in petroleum power, rock etry, woodworking, pigs, field com, microwaves, copper punch and engines. He took part in county and regional teen retreats, State Achievement Days, Capitol Days and the State Farm Show. On the national level, Feeser participated in the Citizenship Washington Focus and the Eastern National Engineering Event Heath Fisher Heath Fisher, Robesonia, (Berks), was named state Dairy Goat Project Scholarship A- ward winner. The son of Jon L. and Jean Fish- er, he is a recent graduate from Conrad Weiser High School. Fisher, who has been a 4-H member for nine years, served as president, vice president and secretary of his local 4-H club. He also assisted in club activities and events as a game leader and completed projects in dairy goats, foods, sheep, rabbits, vegetables and vegetable judging. Fisher took part in his county Day Camp and County Council Bingo. He also participated in regional and state Achievement Days and the state 4-H Camp Counselor Training. Sarah Carman Sarah Carman, Newville, (Cum- JBBk berland), was named state Gar dening and Horti- ■fv'-m culture Award winner. Carman, who has been a 4-H member for eight years, served as president, vice president and news reporter of her local 4-H club. She also assisted her club activities and events as social chairman and teen leader and completed projects in garden ing, foods, swine, photography, pet care and chickens. She took part in county and regional demonstrations and the fashion revue, Capitol Days, Exchange -trip and Leadership Congress, and the national Citizen-Washington Focus. Carman was also named Outstanding Club 4-H’er for Cumberland County. * Tracey George Tracey George, h Salix, (Cambria), was named state Conservation of HP Natural Resour ces Award win- ** ner. The daughter of m Homer and Betty fi George, she is a junior at Greater Johnstown Area Vocational Tech nical School. George, who has been a 4-H member for eight' years, served as president, vice president, secretary, news reporter and song leader of her local 4-H club. She has completed projects in conservation, foods, clothing, plants, photography, entomology, health, pets, clowns, crafts, capons, bicycles and handyman. She took part in county and regional demonstrations, fashion and food revues, State Achieve ment Days. Capitol Days and the 4-H poster contest on the state and national level. Dani Gordon Dani Gordon, Needmore, (Ful ton), was named state Agricultural Careers Scholar- ship Award win- ner. The daughter of Blaine and Donna Gordon, she is a freshman at Hagerstown Business College. Gordon, who has been a 4-H member for ten years, served as president, vice president, secretary and treasurer of her local 4-H club. She also assisted her club leader with club projects and completed projects in clothing, pet care, foods, conservation, home envi ronment and management and the horse. She took part in the county and regional fashion and food revues, Capitol Days, State Achievement Days and the National 4-H Exchange trip. Gretchen Gross Gretchen ■■■■■■ Gross, Emlenton (Venango), was named state Bread Award winner. The daughter of / Glenn and Barb- \y ara Gross, she is a sophomore at Al- legheny Clarion Valley Higttt School. Cranberry, who has been a 4-H member for six years, served as song leader, game leader, news* reporter, and social co-chairman. She completed projects in foods, first aid, hobbies, arts and crafts, needlepoint, quilting, cross stitch, clothing, wood-working, electrici ty, photography, business and veterinary science. She took part in the fashion revue on both the county and regional levels. On the state level she participated in the Farm Show, Achievement Days and Leader ship Congress. Kaleen Hanby Kaleen Hanby, Emlenton (Ven ango), was named state Home Envir onment Award JR: <*JPH winner. ‘ The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. K.R. v Hanby, she is a senior at Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School. Hanby, who has been a 4-H member for eight years, served as president, secre tary, treasurer, and song leader of her local club and has helped plan club meetings and social affairs. The projects she has taken include decorating, hobbies, veterinary science, horseless horse, wood working and first aid. Hanby took part in her county’s demonstration and judging days, the Regional Citizenship Retreat and State Achievement Days. She also traveled to New York with her county Exchange Group.
