Retiree Honored For Community Impact

CHAMBERSBURG Nancy
Hogg, Franklin County Extension
Home Economist, was honored at
a retirement dinner held October
23 at the Chambersburg Holiday
Inn.
Mrs. Hogg, 60, who has a
Bachelor of Science degree from
Camegie-Mellon and a Master of
Science degree from Penn State,
has served Franklin County since
1968. During that time she worked
extensively with youth and adult
programs. The 4-H Family Living
projects, including the Round-Ups
and Fashion Revue, were her

responsibility. She helped the
Homemaker’s and Farm Women
groups to develop programs and
provided leadership training for
their advisors. She further served
the community by assisting the
local Council of Churches in start
ing a Food Pantry for the needy
and by serving on the Boards of
Directors of both Head Start and
Meals on Wheels.
The main feature of the evening
was testimonials by individuals
who had worked closely with Mrs.
Hogg over the years.
John Shearer, Franklin County
Extension Agent, expressed appre
ciation to Mrs. Hogg on behalf of
Nancy Hogg
the extension staff, citing her edu
cational impact on the aging, the
young, and the handicapped. “You
have been an asset and help to all
of us,” he concluded.
Diane Brown, representing
Penn State University’s Extension
Administration, stated that for
nineteen years Mrs. Hogg had

newspaper column, radio show,
and educational programs. You
went the extra mile.” Brown pre
sented the retiree with a plaque
from Epsilon Sigma Phi, the
National Honorary Extension
Fraternity.
The high point of the evening
came with the presentation to Mrs.
Hogg of a Resolution passed by the
Pennsylvania State Senate recog
nizing her “nineteen years of dedi
cated service to the citizens of
Franklin County. Thousands have
benefited from her nutrition and
health education programs,” the
resolution read in part. Charles
Burch, district representative for
Senator William Moore, made the
presentation.
Further testimonials to Mrs.
Hogg’s dedication and service to
the people of Franklin County
were given by Gertie Reichard of
the 4-H Development Committee;

Mrs. Hogg received a monetary
gift from the citizens of Franklin
County.
“I will miss my job,” she told the
audience. “What I loved the most
about my job was being out in the
county with the people. I’ve
enjoyed all the contacts I’ve had
over the years. You haven’t seen
the last of me,” she went on. “I’m
not originally from this area, but
I’m staying in Franklin County.”
Her remarks received a standing
ovation from the 136 people
assembled in her honor.
Attending the dinner with Mrs.
Hogg were her mother, Eva Lauer
of Camp Hill; her brother Robert
Lauer, Pittsburgh; and son and
daughter-in-law, Stephen and
Leah Hogg.
Cakes for the occasion were
made and decorated by 4-H
members,
C. Eugene Wingert, President of
the Extension board, served as
Master of Ceremonies for the
event.
