old Quality Ultimate, was owned
by Melvin Kolb of Lancaster. Peila
Brothers of Manchester, Ct., pur
chased the cow, which is milking
at 75 pounds, for $3,400.
The 3-year-old fresh heifer
shown by Charlie Myers of Lan
caster was selected as having the
best udder fresh and was bought by
Paul B. Zimmerman of Ephrata for
$3,450. Best udder dry was a
mature cow shown by Peila
Brothers. It was purchased by
Rodney Greist of Coatesville for
$3,500.
Herb Hartman, Hartman Farms
of Dundee, 111., bid $8,600 on the
second-place mature dry cow for
the high bid of the sale. The 3-year
old fresh heifer from Don and Har
old Welk’s Stonehurst Farms of
Strasburg, placed second in its
class and brought the second
highest bid of $6,900 from David
Rama of Cattle Exchange in Delhi,
N.Y. The average price for the
cows was $2,321.
Pomona Grange
Supports “Vote
Yes On Ag”
ELIZABETHTOWN Lan
caster County Pomona Grange No.
71 was hosted by Elizabethtown
Grange No. 2076 at their October
17 meeting. The Grange voted to
go on record as supporting the
“Vote Yes on Ag Preservation”
issue to be decided in the Novem
ber election. A donation was
designated to go to the Lancaster
County Committee for Ag
Preservation.
The Grange also voted to go on
record with PennDotas supporting
Alternative No. 6 of the proposed
Route 23/30 highway. This alter
native would have the new Route
23/30 extend north to Blue Ball
before looping south to link up
with the Chester County Route 30
expressway.
Pequca Valley Grange issued an
invitation for the January meeting
to be held at the Wagon Wheel
Restaurant, Paradise, on Saturday,
January 16, 1988. The literary
program featured a patriotic flag
service. Pennsylvania Stale
Grange will be held in Butler, Pen
nsylvania October 26-29, and
National Grange will meet
November 9-15 in Syracuse, New
York.
