USDA Grants Rights To Seed Producers
WASHINGTON, D.C. The
U.S. Department of Agriculture

tion to developers of 11 new var
ieties of seed-reproduced plants,
including com, cotton, pea, soy
bean, and tobacco.
Kenneth H. Evans, an official
with USDA’s Agricultural Mark
eting Service, said developers of
the new varieties will have the
exclusive right to reproduce, sell,
import, and export their products
in the United States for 18 years.
Certificates of protection are
granted after a review of the breed
ers’ records and claims that each
new variety is novel, uniform, and
stable.
The following varieties have
been issued certificates of
protection:
the 779 variety of com,
developed by the Northrup King
Co., Minneapolis, Minn.;
