Dairymen Honored For Service On DHIA Board

tors’ Conference held in State Col
lege on September 2 & 3, three for
mer State Directors were honored
for their contributions to Pennsyl
vania DHIA. Honored were Milan
(Cy) Pavkov from Erie County,
Oliver Butler from Tioga County
and Jason Hertzler from Union
County.
Cy Pavkov from Erie« County
operates a 425 acre farm with his
wife Dot and their son Jack. Cy
served on the Erie County Board of
Franklin County 4-H Shepherds
Members of the Franklin Coun
ty 4-H Shepherds participated in
the clubs annual farm tour on July
28. The club divided up into two
groups and toured the farms of the
attending 4-H members. The pro
vided shelter, feed and condition
of each 4-H lamb was inspected
and scored in each members 4-H
livestock record book. After the
farm tour both groups met at the
Memorial Park for a picnic and
swimming.
On August 25 a meeting was
held at Bixel’s place, Chambers
burg, for the purpose of demon
strating, fitting and showing tech-

Oliver Butler and his wife Mar
ian operate a 400 acre farm in Tio
ga County. Oliver has served on
the Tioga County board for 20
years, serving as president for 6
years. Oliver was a State Director
for 15 years, and a National Dele-
niques. First year members, Jason
Mowery, Holly and Eric Long
worked with the lambs while Ken
and Kim Bixel demonstrated.
Refreshments were provided by
the Bixel’s.
The 4-H Shepherds Round-Up
and Auction will be held at Green
castle Livestock Sales on Wednes
day, September 16th. Weigh-in
will begin at 8:00 a.m. with the
show beginning at 10:00 a.m. The
sale of the market lambs will begin
at 2:00 p.m.
A tentative meeting is scheduled
for the September 22 at the Exten
sion Office in Chambersburg.
