encourage you to participate as an
exhibitor in the fair. Judging of
most exhibits will begin at 10 a.m.
Wednesday, Sept. 16 and should
conclude by midaftemoon. You
can enter exhibits in the following
departments: Dairy Cattle; Beef
Cattle; Sheep; Swine; Rabbits;
Forage & Grain; Vegetables;
Fruits & Nuts; Home & Dairy Pro
ducts which includes Baked Pro
ducts and Canned or Dried Pro
ducts; Floral; Needlecrafl includ
ing Clothing and Needlework; and
Art, Photography, Crafts.
The Food Committee prepares
full course meals and individual
food items each day in the Hoff
man Building for you convenience
and dining pleasure. Chicken Pot
Pie dinners are featured all day
Wednesday. Thursday’s luncheon
special is Beef Stew followed by a
Ham Supper from 4-8 p.m. Fri
day’s special is Hot Roast Beef
Sandwich. Also, a large variety of
delicious quality food items are
available at our numerous food
stands located throughout the
fairground.
Highlights of Wednesday’s
activities include judging dairy
cattle color breeds 10a.m.; judging
sheep 2:00 p.m.; the Street Parade
6:30 p.m.; and the tug-of-war com-

ern Lancaster County Adult Far
mer Program is offering two
update training sessions for credits
toward private applicator license
renewal. The first of the two iden
tical sessions will be held on Tues
day evening, September 8, 1987
from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Leola
Produce Auction facility on Bre
thren Church Rd., Barcville. The
second session will be held on
Tuesday evening, Sept. 22, 1987,
from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Sum
mit Valley Elementary School,
Eastern School Rd., 2 miles south
of New Holland.
Each session will qualify for 2
core credits and 2 agronomic crop
petition 8:30 p.m. Thursday will
feature judging Holstein dairy
cattle 10 a.m.; judging swine 3
p.m.; judging beef 6:30 p.m.; the
Baby Parade 7 p.m.; and the farmer
relays at 8 p.m. in which teams of
three will compete in three events
stacking straw, pushing a
wheelbarrow, and eating ice
cream. There will be two divisions
—l4 & under and 15-19 years old.
Friday’s main events are the Trac
tor Driving Contest 10 a.m.; the
Market Hog & Steer Sale 6:00
p.m.; special entertainment featur
ing DAMASCUS, a contemporary
Christian music band, at 8:30 p.m.
in the Show Bam; and the Rural
Youth Awards during special
entertainment intermission at
approximately 9 p.m. The Petting
Zoo'of farm animals sponsored by
the Solatia) FFA is open each day.
The Fair encourages the produc
tion and marketing of high quality
agricultural and home products
and the improvement of rural liv
ing conditions. It should be the
desire of every community resi
dent to produce quality products
during the year and to exhibit them
at the Fair. Our Fair serves the pro
ducer and community well as a
media whereby our agricultural
productivity, personal talents, and
cultural wealth are displayed and
recognized. Commercial exhibits
display the latest technological
developments and advancements.

sprayers, calculating and measur
ing pesticide amounts, cleaning
sprayers and disposing of contain
ers, selecting and rotating pesti
cides on vegetables, new materials
for com, beans, potatoes, hay, and
pasture, spraying for under plastic
mulch, and fumigation.
The credits will be good for
licenses expiring in September of
1987 and can be used for building
up credits for licenses expiring at
later dates as well. For additional
