on the retirement home’s grounds,
but residents who were too ill to
leave their rooms did not need to
miss it. The 4-H’ers carried their
animals into the rooms where resi
dents petted and exclaimed over
their unusual guests.
Resident John Krick was
delighted that the children brought
the fair to the home. He said that he
had worked on a farm before his
hospitalization and now he misses
the animals. Since Krick is unable
to walk, be has a motorized cart
called an Amigo. Fastened to the
front of his cart is a basket which
Krick filled with two little piglets
from the fair.
Many of the residents recalled
previous years when fair time was
a highlight of their lives. Since
they can no longer travel to the reg
ular town fair, they appreciated the
4-H’ers efforts to bring them some
fun and laughter.

offered free milk, cheese and
crackers to residents.
The 4-H’ers visits will not be
limited to this one-time celebra
tion. Each has adopted a resident
and will keep in contact by visit
ing, giving small gifts and making
a 4-H project for them. In Decem
ber, a return group visit is planned.
The 4-H leaders, Fran Bushong
and Lorraine Royer, said it was
difficult to tell who had the most
fun, the residents or the 4-H’ers.
But one thing was certain, their
visit put some smiles on faces that
hadn’t had one for a long time.
Later, the group congregated
outside for a covered dish meal
with their families. Lebanon 4-H
King Matt Bushong and Queen
Cathy Mase were each awarded a
$lOO savings bond for their suc
cess in selling tickets for a previ
ous town fair.
