Correspondent CHAMBERSBURG A 91 point Sexation daughter took home the Senior and Grand Champion awards from the Franklin County Holstein Show held at the Franklin County Fair August 20. Jaye C, Young and J. Chalmers Young, Jr. of JCY Farms, Greencastle, showed JCY Sexation Apex in their first major win at the Franklin County Fair. She also had the sec ond best udder of the show. Apex had taken first place in the five year old class at the South Central District Show August 10. Her best record is 24,000 pounds of milk with 928 of fat in 365 days. The Premier Exhibitors, James and Nina Burdette of Windy Knoll View Farm, MercerSburg, also showed the Reserve Senior and Reserve Grand Champion, Windy Knoll View Ultimate Pala. The junior two-year-old was named All-Pennsylvania Junior Yearling on 1986. Her dam, Windy Knoll View Creek Pauline is classified 88 with an excellent mammary. Ultimate Pala, a Quality Ultimate daughter, was also named Best Udder of Show. Youth Senior Champion and Youth Grand Champion was Aldi na Legend Jenie, a three year old owned by Beverly A. Meyers, Chambersburg. The 86 point Oak Ridge Legend daughter made 17,250 pounds of milk and 577 pounds of fat in 281 days at 2 years and 3 months. Beverly’s Intermediate Year ling Heifer, Aldina Magic Gigi, was named Youth Reserve Grand Champion and Youth Junior Champion. The Romandale Magic daughter was Youth Junior Champion at the Shippensburg Fair in July, and 1986 All- Pennsylvania and Junior All- Pennsylvania Intermediate Calf in Lebo Wins Franklin County 4-H Beef Show BY BONNIE BRECHBILL Franklin Co. Correspondent CHAMBERSBURG Nicole Lebo took top honors in the Frank lin County 4-H Beef Steer Show at the Franldin County Fair August 18 with her Heavy Middle Weight Steer. The steer, an Angus/ Chianina/Lim. cross, was bought at the Piedmont Invitational Calf Sale. It was bred by Ollie Bennet. Nicole, 14, is the daughter of Leon and Judy Lebo, Greencastle. Darren Meyers, 15, of Green castle, took Reserve Grand Champion honors with his Chianina/Angus steer, which he bought at the East-West Classic Sale in Ohio. Darren is the son of Gary and Elaine Meyers. Champion Fitter was David Sheiss, 12, Chambersburg, son of Daryl and Penny Sheiss. His brother Donnie, 17, was named Champion Shower. Thirty steers were entered in the show. Judge Gary Dean of Lancaster County commended the 4-Hers on the quality of their animals. An Arlinda CAR Dairy man daughter, the Junior Two Year old was classified 80 points and projected for 19,000 pounds of milk. Junior Champion of the Open Show was Windy Knoll View Lot sa Quality, owned by James and Nina Burdette. The Senior Year ling was nominated All-American Senior Calf in 1986 and received Honorable Mention. She is a Qual ity Ultimate daughter. Reserve Junior Champion hon ors went to Kingstead Merit Amy, an Intermediate Yearling owned by Aldina Holsteins. She is a Kingstead Merit daughter. Cory Meyers, St. Thomas, showed the Youth Reserve Junior Champion, Ro-Meyer Precious Pride Cory, a Gil-Tex-B Milkmas ter daughter. She is a Senior Year ling Heifer. Antrim-Spring Farms was named Premier Breeder. The farm is owned by Harold F. Crider and sons Rodney and Roger. Judge for the event was Gordon Wood of Mansfield. He felt that the quality of the cattle shown was excellent. “Several times at the bottom of a class we had cows that would really milk,” he said. “There was good quality straight through,” he added. The 1987 Franklin County Holstein Show was dedicated to the memory of Paul D. Eckstine who died August 9 at the age of 72. Eckstine had been in charge of the Holstein Show for the past twelve years and had been a chaperone for the district 4-H show in Harrisburg for fifteen years. donated by local businesses.
