with October through August ’BB
making new contract highs. Hogs
opened higher boosted by higher
cash hog openings and light move
ment yesterday and today. Bellies
traded higher on spillover strength
from the live hogs, but collapsed
near the end of today’s session
under wholesale belly prices.
ACRES CORN UPDATE:
Com futures settled sharply higher
this afternoon with buying ini
tiated by a brighter export outlook.
Rumors surfaced early in the ses
sion that China and Yugoslavia
may be interested in purchasing
U.S. com tonight or Thursday.
Prices also were buoyed by a ten
der from Mexico and possible con
firmations from South Korea and
Egypt. September posted gains of
3-3/4 cents, settling at $1.61-3/4
and December had gains of 2-3/4
cents, settling at $1.71 for the day.
ACRES SOYBEAN
UPDATE: Soybeans settled
slightly higher, but off daily highs
with early support stemming from
timely rainfall in the bean belt and
prevention of an early harvest
Some support stemmed from talk
that CCC might not cut its resale
price for beans to $5.15 on Sept. 1,
but remain with a higher price.
CCC will announce its minimum
sales price for 87-88 on Monday.
Buying today also came on a more
favorable export outlook and the
posting of light delivery notices
ahead of first notice day Monday.
November closed up 2-3/4 at
$5.1275.
