A 30’x124’ silo will hold approximately 3000 tons of
com silage. This silo would replace about 7, 20’x60’ silos
at less than one-half the cost. Also, there is only one un
loader to maintain. The silo has a floor about 5’ off the
ground with a walk-thru tunnel and a belt conveyor to take
the silage from the Big Jim unloader. It required a total of
382.5 cubic yards of concrete, (99.5 in the footer), and
about 8.'5 miles of steel for reinforcing. You will notice in
the picture that there are 5 rest stops on the outside ladder.
You may not need a silo this large, but we use the same
techniques in building our other poured concrete silos, giv
ing you a definite advantage‘over all other methods of silo
construction.
