KUTZTOWN Two class
mates dominated the Eastern Pen
nsylvania Championship Holstein
Show Saturday, as the top cows in
the three-year-old class went on to
be named grand and reserve
champion females.
Patricia Miller, 17, of Tamaqua,
captured top honors with her 4-H
project, M-Maplegrove Es
Mysticle-ET. Mysticle, who also
received best bred and owned
award, was sired by Thonyma East
Star-Twin. Classified 89 as a two
year-old, Mysticle is working on a
24,000 lb. production record and is
projected for 32,340 lbs. at 305
days.
A first-time winner at the East
ern show. Miller was surprised
with her success over the 135 head
field.
‘Though the cow was champion
at the North Hampton show I
didn’t know if she was good
enough to even win her class
here,” said Miller. “I came expect
ing tough competition.”
The reserve champion was no
stranger to the winner’s circle.
Canadian-bom Richine Astro Nee
ta took top honors at the Lancaster
County Holstein Show less then a
month before. Sired by Reidmore
Astrommer, Neeta is owned by
Silvermine Holsteins, Willow
Street.
Judge Oren Bender of Garret
County, MD was impressed with
the strength he saw in the three
year-old class. Bender commented
that he felt his choice of champions
were capable of withstanding
tougher competition.
