BY J. EVAN REIFF
MANHEIM The Lancaster
County 4-H Champion Market
Hog title stayed in the same family
as Laura Folker, IS, replaced
younger brother, Chad, in the win
ner’s circle by capturing top hon
ors with her 232 lb. Hampshire
barrow Wednesday.
Miss Folker, daughter of Tony
and Edith Folker, topped a field of
92 with her heavyweight entry that
caught the attention of judge Ken
Winebark, an extension agent
from Lebanon County. Hatfield
Packing Co. paid $3.60 a pound for
Folker’s campion.
Producing champion market
hogs has become natural for the
Folkers. The brother-sister team
from New Holland have numerous
titles at the local and state level to
their credit. Like most of her other
champions, Miss Folker’s Hog
was bred by Lyle Binder of
Mahomet, 111.
Capping his ninth year in 4-H,
Sheldon Heisey, 17, received
$2.60 a pound for his reserve
champion market hog. Heisey, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Heisey,
Elizabethtown, bought his 216 lb.
Duroc-Spotted cross from Ken
Ketter, a Carlisle-area breeder.
