Al6-Lancaster Farming, Saturday, August 15, 1987 Bucks County Holstein Club Picnic The Bucks Co. Holstein Club held its annual picnic at Pennywell Farms, Ottsville, Pa. on July 25. The farm is owned and operated by Penrose and James Hallowell. Many farm families attended the covered dish lunch. Cattle judging was enjoyed by many at 11:00 A.M. The junior winners were Chris Moran, Kim Moran and Craig Walton. They received a choice of cow halters, brushes, buckets and etc. The senior winners were Kathy Wal ton, Earl Landis, Chris Crooke, Herman Bishop, and Craig Worthington. Our State Director, Roy Shull reported on State Holstein activi- Junior Judging Winners and First Year Dairy 4-H members Chris Mroan, Gail Moyer, Craig Walton, Kim Moran. Gail received a halter in recognition of her first year as a 4-H dairy member. The other youngsters were junior Judging members for the Bucks County Holstein Club picnic. He informed all that the large export of9oo head on one boat will be leaving in August for the Can ary Islands. We are approaching the 7*sth anniversary of the Pen nsylvania Holstein Association and would appreciate hearing from anyone that has information about the early beginning of the association. It was good to have Mike Carr with us from the State Holstein Association. He stated that there is a strong demand for grade or regis tered bred heifers for export and domestic sales. Walter Wurster, State Treasur er, reported the association is in the best financial condition it has ever been. He reported the cost of the new bam was totally recovered from this year’s earnings. Looking to the future they are studying the feasibility of purchasing a compu ter system. Clyde Bishop is handling our calf, beef or cash raffle. It will be held at the Middletown Grange Fair, Wrightstown, Pa. on August 13,14, and 15. The first prize is a side of beef or $4OO, with 2 prizes to follow. Our County Agent, Richard Bailey, introduced our speaker, Dennis Murphy, Ag. Engineering Specialist, P.S.U. who held the crowds attention on Farm Safety.
