EVAN REIFF Dale Hostetler, Annville, swept the major open Holstein awards by winning champion and reserve female titles and both premier breeder and exhibitor banners at Lebanon Area Fair. Dale-Pride Specs Paula, a home-bred three-year-old, look the top female honors for Hostetler at the 190 head show. Paula is clas sified VG-86 and is working on a 21,000 lb. three year production record. Paula was sired by Hostet ler’s own bull, Dale-Pride Rorae Spectacular. Judge L. Leroy Plance, Wellsboro, found the champion’s show winning udder particularly impressive. “She wasn’t terrible big, but is real well balanced cow,” com mented Plance. “Her width and height of udder is her real strong point.” The reserve champion, Dale- Pride Pete Agatha, stood second to the champion in the three-year-old class. Agatha is classified as an excellent-90 and has 21,000 lb. production record. She was sired by Straight-Pine Elevation Pete. A father and son operation, the Hostetlers milk a 100 head regis tered Holstein herd and farm 500 acres. Two young Bomgardners from Ono captured both champion and reserve junior heifer tides. The first place senior heifer calf, own ed by Kevin Bomgardner, was chosen for the top junior female honors. Loving-Meadows Rowena was sired by Hanoverhill Counselor-ET. Corwin Bomgard ner walked away with the reserve junior female title on his interme diate heifer entry, Loving- Meadows Baby Janelle. Atlantic Dairy Sponsors Students SOUTHAMPTON Atlantic Dairy Cooperative is sponsoring six high school students to attend the National Institute on Coopera tive Education Aug. 11-14 in St. Louis, Mo. The students, all relatives of Atlantic members, were selected to attend the NICE conference based on their participation at the Pennsylvania Association of Far mer Cooperatives Summer Insti tute held at Juniata College in July. Representing Atlantic are: Sue Burkhart, Mohnton; Christine Davidson, Shippensburg; Benja min Dum, Elliottsburg; Tim Each us, Elmer, NJ.; Susan Eisenhart, New Park; and Dwight Sloltzfus, Morgantown. A senior at Twin Valley High School, Sue Burkhart is the daughter of Richard and Nancy Burkhart. She is a member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA), the lacrosse team and the Robinson Lutheran Church. Christine Davidson, the daught er of Robert and Brenda Davidson, is a junior at Shippensburg Area Senior High School. She partici pates on the track, cross country and hockey teams and is a member of the 4-H, FFA and church youth group. The son of Benjamin and Donna Dum, Benjamin Dum Jr. will be_ a freshman at Penn State University this fall. While in high school, he participated in the FFA and 4-H. He is a member of the Pa. Junior Holstein Association. Tim Eachus, the son of T. Glen and Ella May Eachus, is a senior at Cumberland Regional High School. His activities include FFA and 4-H. The daughter of Rodney and Sara Eisenhart, Sue Eisenhart is a senior at Spring Grove High Dairy Herd 1 Dale-Pride Holstems, 2 Ju-Vindale, 3 Klmedell Farms School. She is a member of the field hockey team, 4-H and her church youth group. She is also the reigning Pa. Jersey Cattle Queen. A senior at Twin Valley High School, Dwight Stoltzfus is the son of Harvey W. and Mary Jane Stolt zfus. His activities include the German Club, FFA, 4-H and his church youth group. The American Institute of Cooperation, based in Washing ton, D.C., sponsors the National Institute on Cooperative Educa tion to explain the role of coopera tives in today’s business world. The theme for this year’s confer ence is “A New Spirit of Cooperation.” Atlantic Dairy Cooperative rep resents 4,100 dairy farm families in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Vir ginia and West Virginia.
